FAQs Print
1. Why should I choose Freedom Home Care?
Freedom Home Care offers a unique approach to in-home support services. We hire only the most experienced and dependable caregivers and match each caregiver to the individual needs of our clients. Our quality control process, overseen by an experienced LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse), ensures that our clients always receive the utmost quality of care, and our offer of unlimited caregiver replacements guarantees you'll find the caregiver that's right for you. Another contributing factor to our success is the quality of caregivers we represent. All of our caregivers have at least two years of home care experience in the last five years. Most have much, much more. We have a very careful and thorough screening process that involves checking criminal background records, DMV reports, employment references, social security numbers and more. We're also proud to say that we offer proprietary training programs and health care benefits to our employees. These and other benefits we offer help us retain good employees on a long-term basis as well as give us a way of thanking them for a job well done.

2. Will Medicare pay for home care services?
No. Medicare pays for intermittent skilled care in the home, not continuous homemaker or personal care services in the home.

3. Will my medical insurance pay for home care services?
No. Medical insurance will pay for intermittent skilled care in the home, not continuous homemaker or personal care services in the home.

4. Mom wants to stay home but I work. Who can stay with her?
Many options are available. You can ask friends or hire a private sitter to help and take the responsibility of managing the care yourself. You can also call a staffing agency or a care management company, like Freedom Home Care, to provide caregivers.
5. Should I hire a private sitter?
Private sitters are initially cheaper, because most people pay them under the table (don't pay their social security, unemployment, and federal and state income taxes) and do not provide workers compensation insurance. However, the liability is much greater because the responsibility rests on the family. If the sitter gets hurt on the job, steals, or mistreats your loved one, the financial and emotional consequences could be devastating. Additionally, the family must do all the screening, interviewing, hiring, scheduling and management of the sitters. For these reasons, many people choose to hire a care management company like Freedom Home Care. We can reduce the stress on the family by handling everything for you. And we can give you peace of mind that your loved one is being well cared for.

6. What types of services does Freedom Home Care provide?
There are a variety of services that Freedom can provide for you or your loved one:
Skilled Private Duty Nursing
In-Home Care and Companionship Services
Child Care
Med-Minder - Automated Medication Reminder Program
CRT - Cognitive Retention Therapy

7. What steps are involved in implementing services?
The process is very easy. For service in Columbus and the surrounding areas, please call 706-507-3349, or 800-507-3349. Working closely with the client and family, a Freedom Home Care nurse will assess your loved ones needs and recommend a plan of care. This plan is tailored to meet the client's specific needs. Because no two clients are alike, we are careful to match our caregivers with the personalities and needs of the client. An LPN will supervise your case.

8. Are the caregivers screened and in what manner?
All candidates are screened in the following areas:
Criminal Background Check - Background checks are completed to screen for felonies, misdemeanors, violations, outstanding warrants, and criminal time served.
Personal References
Work References
Drug Screening
I - 9 Verification
Social Security
Interview, skills assessment, entry level tests

9. Are Freedom Home Care caregivers insured?
All caregivers are insured and bonded, which means that the family is completely protected against liability.

10. How far in advance do I have to call to set up services?
We work to handle all service requests as needed from same day to several weeks in advance. It is helpful if we are given at least 24-hours advance notice of service need.
11. If I need to get in touch with someone at the office over the weekend/ holiday/night regarding an issue, will someone be available to help me?
Yes, we have staff on-call during non-office hours to assist you with any urgent service issues.
12. Can I hire the caregivers directly that Freedom sent to my home?
No. We ask all clients to sign a service agreement in which they agree not to hire our caregivers. Freedom is not an employment agency and works extremely hard to recruit, train and retain only the best caregivers. If clients hire Freedom caregivers directly, it undermines the integrity of our operation and is ultimately detrimental to our business.
13. Do I have to sign a contract?
No. You are not locked into a long contract, but there is a service agreement that guarantees that we will provide the services that you need when you need them. Our services are customized to meet your needs, you choose the days and times based on your needs and you can stop at any time.
14. Mom needs help and can not be left alone. Is an assisted living or nursing home the only option?
In-home care is another excellent alternative to institutional living. Most people would rather stay at home; however, many people move into institutions due to the inability to perform simple regular daily activities such as cooking, cleaning, etc. Unfortunately, some people decline very rapidly after moving out of their homes, so this option should be carefully considered.
15. Does my doctor have to prescribe home care?
No. Your doctor only prescribes Home Health care, which is the intermittent skilled care that Medicare pays for. Home care is self directed personal care, which means that you maintain full control over your circumstances and environment, while getting the assistance you need to remain safe and comfortable.
16. Daddy needs help, but is in denial and won't allow anyone in the house. What do I do?
This is one of the most common and difficult problems that family caregivers face. We recommend that you start by investigating all available care options and have a plan in place. Unfortunately, in most cases of denial, the family will be jolted into action by an emergency and pre-planning will really pay off.
17. What are the payment options for home care?
Self-pay - The client or the client's family pays for the service. We accept checks, MasterCard and Visa.
Long-Term Care Insurance - All policies are different, but we will be happy to assist you in checking on your coverage and filing your claims.
Medicaid
Workers Compensation Insurance
